The G-Klasse cabrio was considered to be a bizarre yet an attractive vehicle because of G-Klasse throbbing engine, along with the joy of open-top driving combined with a power similar to the power of a tank. The car proved to be a highly fun ride because it had an unearthly handling along with excellent negotiation capabilities despite the fact that it belonged to the batch of those vehicles that were built for military purpose, which mean that it had a bad interior along with low controls. The appearance of the top-less Cabrios was no less tough than the appearance of the hardtop, and it was popularized as the "Rough terrain vehicle".

However, the entire class of this batch was revised in 1990, which added different features and upgrades which included an excellent reinforced chassis, along with anti-lock brakes and a suspension system. The interior was also upgraded, with the addition of excellent upholstery, along with wooden accents.

In 2001, the car saw another round of upgrades which included an electronic stability control system added to all the vehicles including the Cabrio. Diesel engines which were already present in the car at the time when the car was launched were also upgraded. This led the car to perform as well as it would on a similarly sized petrol engine.
