Also known as the Grandeur on the Asian markets, the XG was originally released in 1986. The 1999 model is actually the third generation and it had the same platform as the Kia Amanti. Originally, the car was a rebadged Mitsubishi Debonair. The 1999 model was also called the XG300 and it debuted with a 2.5 liter engine and came with a lot of luxury options, making it a cheaper contender to the Mercedes E-class and the BMW 5 series.

A facelift for the third generation XG, the XG 350 as it was known, had a new and more powerful engine when compared to the older version. It was a 3.5 liter Sigma V6. On the inside, the manufacturer provided the buyer with even more luxury options, such as heated seats, sophisticated entertainment system and wood and leather trim. The domestic models were also equipped with 2.0 and 2.5 Delta engines.
