In 2000, the first series of Trajet 7-seat multi-purpose vehicle was produced by Hyundai. It was included with the engine options such as a diesel, a 2.0 GSI petrol engine and even an LPG version. The 2.7 special edition engine of this car came out after one year. The base version of this model was designed with power windows, driver, passenger and side airbags, power steering, front and rear air conditioning, ABS with EBD and seat-belt as the efficient one. Because of the more features available with V6 special edition, the car became as quite luxurious one for this segment.

A facelift was received by all Trajet models in 2004. Even though overall look of the car was remained as the same one along with the minor changes, it would probably come up with the boost in power because of engine line-up. The 2.0 GSI engine is now available with the new CVVT engine as shared along with the Hyundai coupe to offer increased horsepower of 6 hp. It had improvement in both fuel consumption and emissions. In the case of safety, all models were designed with the rear seats along with three point seatbelts as the best.
