This 2-door coupe model was designed as based on the Hyundai Excel, which would probably come along with a 1.5 Mitsubishi engine. Name of this model was derived from the combination of the words coupe and sporty. This car was introduced first in 1990 and it was available in the US starting with 1991. First version was designed with a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission option. In 1993, facelifted version of this car was introduced.

This is treated as the facelifted version of the first generation Scoupe. It came up with the redesigned headlamps and changed logo. The side moldings were designed with same color point and as flushed new to the body. It was available with completely redrawn taillights and rear bumper. The engine line-up was added with a new and improved version of the 1.5. It was featured with the 12 valve along with the direct injection, which was known as Alpha in the later years. It was able to offer 115 hp at 5,500 rpm along with the turbocharged option, which was normally used in the case of achieving maximum power at 4,500 rpm to efficient drive.
