HYUNDAI Lantra · photos, packages and modifications
There was a first generation model built in order to replace the Hyundai Excel, which was also treated as the competitor for the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic, namely as the Lantra known as Elantra in the later years. It was featured with the engine as a Mitsubishi 1.6 L4 double overhead cam model, which was able to produce 113 hp along with the capacity to make a car from 0 to 60 in 9.5 seconds. In 1993, the facelifted version of this first generation model was introduced.
The facelift of this car came with few changes and the most important thing was the introduction of a 1.8 L4 engine that was designed by Mitsubishi. This new unit provided an alternative to the petrol engines and also produced out 124 hp in an efficient manner. Since the next generation Lantra models wouldn't come out until 1996, this facelift model became so familiar among the people even though it was not available with many modifications.
In 1995, there was the introduction of second generation Lantra done along with the codename J2. It came with two efficient body styles including a station wagon and sedan. When you consider about the engines came into the line-up of this generation, you would probably come up with the result as a 1.5 Alpha double overhead cam and a 1.8 Beta double overhead cam capable to run on petrol. After the introduction of this model, new version of the 1.5 was called a lean-burn and in the later years a 2.0 petrol engine included with the trim level GLS. In 1999, facelift version of this generation was introduced.
If you go through the facelift version of the second generation Lantra, it would probably come with two body styles including the estate and the sedan.
