HONDA CR-V · photos, packages and modifications
Swindon-built CR-V is one of the latest cars on the market by Honda. The Swindon-built CR-V created a new sense of prestige and standing for the Honda CR-V badge that could be compared to the likes of Audi Q5 and BMW X3. It is a well engineered, five-seater which has a slick manual gearbox especially if one chooses the robust 2.2-litre diesel model. The CR-V is a car that offers a great driving experience regardless of its dimensions. In spite of this, the Hyundai Santa Fe offering the seven seats option may be favored by some.
The novel Swindon-built CR-V by Honda looks very much like the SUVs already for sale despite this fact Honda has managed to add in a spectacular blend of rounded and angular shapes the like of which are in the new Civic. These contours give a bold and stylish effect with the three-bar grille, plump plastic mouldings, curved C-pillars along with rear light mirrors that imitate the curved style of the C-pillars. All these add up to create a very modern day look while at the same time preserving the traditional image such that it seems comparable to the Santa Fe. The car interior of the new CR-V has shown an improvement in quality as well as design in comparison to the previous model. The design and layout of the latest CR-V in spite of being an upbeat augmentation for some, remains behind the times in the opinion of many. The new Swindon-built CR-V provides a range of trim levels one can select from EX, SE-T, SE, SR, -S, and S-T. Furthermore, every car comes with the following in common: the cruise control, Honda's intelligent-Multi Information Display, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control etc.
The CR-V is a big, tall car comparatively, but it has a neat drive with a fine mix of comfort while having a ride and too much body roll in corners. A practical low punch is provided by the 2.2 litre i-DTEC diesel, whereas the 2.0 litre i-VTEC petrol engine seems to be silent, advanced and even tends to make quite a nice small sound when it is pushed. If not required, the elective five-speed mechanical gearbox is best averted as it seems to be obsolete and slow in comparison to the polished manual. The power steering is now made all-electric and, while it appears to be unresponsive, it permits you to place the CR-V on the road with conviction and poise.
Although, the Euro NCAP is yet to crash test the latest version of the CR-V, the car comes equipped with Honda's Collision Mitigation Braking System and an advanced stability control system to avoid any mishaps from taking place. It also comes with a built-in ability to ascertain the appropriate distance of the car to the ones in the front and braces for impact if it detects a collision coming ahead. Moreover, it possesses the feature of a high seating position which offers a better view of the outside surroundings. The novel Swindon-built CR-V boosts the driver's visibility by its broadened windows and higher seating position by providing an authoritative view of the road.
Even though, Honda has lowered the roof of the CR-V by 30 mm the headroom has not been decreased especially not for those in the rear seats because they are 38 mm lower compared to the previous model. The trunk is 17 litres bigger in size, whereas the low lip and broad opening aperture make stacking heavy objects easier. In addition, handles are provided in the boot and on the bases of the seat which toss up the back seat squab and release the rear seat in its former position in one swift movement. This causes the 589 litre trunk to change into an enormous 1,669 litres of area. The CR-V's only drawback is that it is a five seater car only, instead of the seven seats that are provided by the competitor companies like Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.
