HONDA Accord Tourer · photos, packages and modifications
On paper, there are many things which get it going for the Honda Accord Tourer such as its build quality, unequaled reliability, a reasonable price, a capable range of both petrol and diesel engines and an excellent standard equipment. However it is still not able to match the Ford Mondeo for the appeal or VW Passat for the badge desirability. Although many buyers will be put off due to the boot being smaller than average, it is still a car that the users will purchase after making a decision with their heads and not their heart as it will provide years of safety, comfort and no hassles to the drivers.
The Accord Tourer is still rather anonymous when compared to distinctive cars although it is a handsome, well proportion and also sleek styled. The overall effect of the car is not memorable even though the front is very imposing and the angled lines predominate. The interior is excellent due to the rock-solid build quality and the luxurious materials although the dashboard layout is confusing. The tapered windows also make the passengers in the back seats very claustrophobic.
Although the Accord Tourer is not considered as a scintillating driver's car, it does have a remarkable line up of the engines. The petrol 2.0 and 2.4 engines have the i-VTEC variable valve timing technology of Honda so that it can offer a reasonable fuel economy along with high power and torque. However, the 2.2 liter i-DTEC engine steals the show. As compared to other major manufacturers, Honda has only recently adopted diesel however it has caught up very quickly and the powerful, smooth and frugal motor suit the Accord Tourer.
The problems in Accord Tourer will be very rare if the service schedule is followed as Honda has the best record among major manufacturers when it comes to reliability. An Accord Tourer that was 2 years old and driven 60000 miles passed the Auto Express' rigorous Stripdown test very well and always does well in the survey for Driver power ownership. Also, when it comes to safety the Honda Accord has great record and got five stars out of five by the Euro NCAP for crash safety and has many features such as a trailer stability system, anti-whiplash front headrests, airbags and electronic stability control.
There is only one major area where the Accord Tourer lets you down. The boot holds much lesser than the four door saloon counterpart when the rear seats come in place which is due to the swoopy rear lines. However, if you want flexibility and an ease of an estate car keeping aside the carrying capacity of its rivals, the Honda Accord Tourer is still a great choice.
