In 1985, the Scorpio model was introduced first in the market in order to replace the Ford Granada and it was in the category of executive cars. This car was available in different versions including the 5-door station wagon, sedan and 5-door hatch. Since Ford decided to launch the model of this car as a hatch version, the sedan version was introduced later in the year of 1990. The estate model of this car even came later in 1992. The 1990 model was noticed as the one with the introduction of Cosworth V6 engine.

Even though the Scorpio sedan model was introduced later than the hatch version, it was able to be managed by the sales for it. It was also the year in which the estate model launched in order to compete with the hatchback and the sedan versions of that particular series. After the initial engine lineup, the Cosworth engine was brought along with this model as more powerful one, which was treated as the underpowered one. But, this engine was proven for suffering from the fuel consumption increase.

In 1994, there was a model introduced as the Mark 2 Scorpio sedan along with the hatchback and estate as removed from the series line-up.
