When you consider about the Eurovan project, you would probably come to know that as the joint venture between PSA and Fiat. This project gave birth to the Peugeot 806, Citroen Evasion and the Lancia Zeta and also for the Fiat Ulysse model. The 1994 model of this car was treated as the second generation one and it made Fiat as the only car to retain the name of that project for the second generation in an efficient manner. The name of the car was derived from the Greek hero Odysseus. The next generation Ulysse model came into the market 3 years after the first generation model was pulled from the market, in 2002.

The minivan model of Fiat Ulysse was designed in partnership with the PSA Peugeot Citroen right from the first production in 1995 and all other models were produced in France at the Sevel Nord factory. Because of the re-badged versions sold by both Peugeot and Citroen, the platform of Ulysse was served as the base for other numerous minivans of the range. When you consider about the look and features of the first generation Ulysse, it was similar to other models including Lancia Zeta, Citroen Evasion/Synergie and the Peugeot 806. Apart from that, other models such as the Lancia Phedra, the Peugeot 807 and the Citroen C8 were treated as the re-badged version of the second generation model.

There were vans upgraded both technically and visually by the PSA/Fiat joint venture, in order to come up as the second generation vehicles. For the 2002 version, the Ulysse was treated as the only model to retain its name as the perfect one. This revised version came up with the changed platform, the whole new Powertrain and the modified engine line-up along with the new 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmission. For the JTD models of Fiat, it was introduced with the diesel engines for the efficient and reliable performance.
