In 1984, the production of the saloon version of the Fiat Ritmo was started and it named as the Fiat Regata. It was also treated as the face-lifted version of the Fiat Ritmo. The design of the Regata was based on the Fiat 131 chassis with the 3 box design, which was the same class with the Rover 213/216, Audi 80, the Ford Orion and the Volkswagen Jetta. Almost all the mechanicals of the Regata design were taken from the Ritmo model. There was also the estate version of this car available and it was known as the Regata Weekend model.
