In 1996 the Citroen car manufacturing company introduced with two versions of its car the five door version and the three door version. The three door version of the car came out as a replacement for the AX; the three door car was the smallest car in the Citroen range. The platform of the car was the same as the Peugeot 106 which itself was based on the Citroen AX.

When compared to the basic model of the Saxo, the VTS shared nearly the same design of the car but also offered three different types of engines that provide much more horsepower. The three different engines which are, the two 1.6i variants and the 1.4i variant are rated between 75 to 120 horsepower with the car having a five speed transmission as stock. Like other models of the Saxo the car VTS were produced till the year 2003 that is when Citroen brought out the C3 and the C2.

The car which is the successor of the Ax and the car which came before the C3 and the C2, the Sax are produced by the PSA and come in two different configurations the five doors and the three door hatchback models. The car is sold in Japan by the name of Citroen Chanson and the car comes with four choices of engines which range between the 1.5 liter high ends to the 1.0 low ends. But the 1998 model of Saxo was behind in many areas such as car safety.
