CITROEN CX Break · photos, packages and modifications
The launch of the Citroen CX estate had been done in January 1976, with CX 2000 and CX 2200 diesel engines as the choice. The Prestige new model was launched with an extra 27 cm in length, in February. At the Paris Motor Show, Citroen was introduced with a 4 speed gearbox along with the 603 cubic-inch flat-twin air-cooled engine that was capable of delivering 32 bhp at 5.750 rpm. The fuel consumption of this model was 5.9 liter/90km and the top speed was 120 km/h. In order to give birth to the CX model, the body-manufacturing experience from Peugeot was combined with the mechanical components by Citroen.
In 1982, the first facelift of the CX Break version had been done and it was stayed as the same in the market for three years. The redesigning of the model was the same as the distinct appearance of the original car, but the dashboard was revised into more classic shape with minor changes. Like the hatchback version, the sales of CX Break were very poor because of the ban on cars with height adjustable suspension, except for the US market. Compared to the cars that were released in 1974, the appearance of those cars was lost during the years.
In 1985, the final CX Break version was appeared, which stayed in the market over six years. This model remains with the distinct appearance of the original car, but the bumpers were designed with plastic rather than chromed metal. Even though this model came with crash protection as improved one with some kilograms lost in the total weight, the driving and ride of the car weren’t well compared to Citroen purists. This is because of its lost elegance. The pod like center console of the original design was replaced with the slopping one, which was treated as the biggest interior change.
