Once General Motors had taken over Daewoo, the car known as Matiz gained widespread popularity. At the end of 2004, the former Matiz was re-branded under the name of GM. The new model was similar to the former Matiz because it had the same exterior lines. It came in two types, which included an engine powered by either 0.8L unit, or even a 1-litre power plant. The first unit proved to be extremely fuel-efficient. Once the name was changed to the Chevrolet Spark, the car in 2005 had some slight alterations to the design. Even though there were no side airbags in the car, the 2004 model was able to gain 72% score on the side impact, according to the EuroNCAP tests.

The Matiz/Spark is a city car, which was produced by GM Daewoo in South Korea. It is a five-door hatch, which is marketed differently under different names in different parts of the world. The M200 model was launched at the 2004 Paris Motor Show and it consisted of either a 0.8 liter 3-cylinder or a 1.0 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine. This car has been designed keeping the busy urban areas, which is why it is quite practical. It only measures 137.6 x 58.8 (L x W). This measurement does not include the exterior materials. One innovative feature of the Spark includes the instrument cluster, which is centrally positioned.

The latest model of Chevrolet Spark was introduced in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a huge step forward from the previous models. Known as M300, this model has GM Gamma platform. It also has a wide range of other features, which includes an instrument panel inspired by a motor-bike, along with hidden rear door handles, and an analog speedometer, as well as a digital tachometer, giving it a sporty look. According to the poll held by the manufactures at the concept stage, the young customers loved this car as it got the most number of votes. With a new 1.2 liter turbocharged unit for petrol, the car has used different quality materials, and it received a 4-star rating, according to EuroNCAP crash tests.
