BMW 8-series · photos, packages and modifications

In 1989 BMW launched the new supercar of the 8 series which was based on the new e31 platform of automobile. Basically the car was designed to compete the Mercedes Benz S-class and SL-class in the sector of premium coupe. Officially launched in the 1991 in the IAA Frankfurt Auto show after two years of the model's production, it was designed as a 4 seat configuration. The model sported a new exterior compared to the 6 series models and was equipped with a V12 powerful 5.0 litre engine that promised 300 horsepower. The new model came with a manual 6 speed gearbox which in the earlier entry level cars was available with the 3 litre V8 218 hp engine. The weight also added on owing to more luxury items fitted in the car. BMW also based on the model of 8 series developed a secret model which was an M8 high performance version built to compete Ferrari in the sector of sports car, however the production was later dropped owing to no market support.
