BMW 3-series Compact · photos, packages and modifications

1994 saw the release of a new 3 door compact alternate relating to the 3 series models. The model in contrast to its competitors the Mercedes Benz and Audi offered very low spacing efficiency and therefore never held a competitive position in the small hatchback sector despite its low price. The car came with a wheelbase resembling the entry level model of the 3 series however it was available in different versions the 316g running on Compressed Natural Gas, the 316i, 318ti, the 318tds running on diesel and the touring international 232ti. When considering the exteriors the compact model came with the same E36 saloon features of hood, lights, bumpers and front fenders, however the suspension of the BMW Z3 was used. The initial generation of the compact 3 series was made available in both the North American and European markets.

The new compact version of the 3 series was introduced by BMW in 2001 which was basically designed to compete the Audi A3 and the Mercedes Benz C-class sport coupe in the sector of small hatchbacks. The car came with the same transmission, engines and suspension as of the E46 saloon with a variety of four different variants. The range topper 325Ti that offered a 2.5 litre engine that provided 190 hp was paired with a SSG Manual clutch-less transmission.Other variants in the 3 series compact also had new features including traction control, ABS with CBC (Cornering Brake Control), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and 6 airbags feature. The interior of the car was provided with a sportier look with no support for lateral seats and hard seat covers.
