Mark 3 Mazda 626 was also referred to as FordTellstar and it was made on GD podium, which was utilized by the Mazda upon Capella models. The upgraded 1988 generations witnessed the overture of four-wheel steering systems and this attained a mixed response. After sometime this system was excluded from the manufacturing and was taken by Honda. The models were redesigned in the year 1991 and their place was taken by 2nd generation in the year 1993.

In the year 1993 some prominent alternations were brought in the series, its size was made bigger so that it can be called a middle sized vehicle and a newer GE platform was taken. The car received positive reviews and in some of the markets of North America it was also entitled as Cronos. The positive reception can be attributed to upgraded transmission, larger unit for petrol and great looks. The vehicle received good commendation in Japan and the European region, but it was a major disappointment in United State, when Ford CD4E was introduced in the year 1994. This vehicle obtained customary airbags during course of its time of production and it interchanged parts with other similar models.

It had a smaller rear and conventional styling related with hatch. It is present with same level of tools like other related models; it looked a little less sporty and shows more compatibility with other buyer types. Main up gradations are being mentioned below:

In spite of modifications MKV 626 was not appreciated by the masses and was regarded as a poorly loaded car, which had restricted options in comparison to previous models.
