From 1997 to 2008, there was a car produced by Daewoo Motors as large front-drive subcompact named as Daewoo Nubira translated from Esperanto as cloud going. The first generation of this model was produced until 1999 as the replacement for Daewoo Nexia, which was designed by the Italian I.D.E.A. Institute. The second generation Nubira named as Daewoo Nubira II was come up with renewed exterior accessories to deliver a more dynamic image along with more than 90 improvements. Because of this efficient appearance, the North American sales were started in 1999. This car was designed with the options of 1.6 liter, 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter four-cylinder petrol engines.

This Daewoo Nubira model was originally sold as a station wagon, four-door sedan and hatchback versions. Since the hatchback version of this model lasted only one season, it was treated as the one of the rarest Daewoo models available in the U.S. market. When you consider about the standard parts for the Nubira CDX, you would probably end up with the result as anti-lock braking system that was normally suggested as the option in the SX trim level version. The second generation of this model was featured with harshness, better noise isolation, vibration reduction and increased passenger space.

The model Daewoo Nibura was replaced with the 2004 Chevrolet Optra model in Canada and by the 2004 Suzuki Forenza/Reno in the United States, after 2002. This model cars are still manufactured in Egypt and the parts and model were produced in Romania until 2008. In 2004 the Daewoo Lacetti, which was known as the Nubira III developed as the sedan version by Peninfarina designers. There was an entry in the Nibura lineup in 2005 as the station wagon version. These sedan and estate wagon models are still named as Nubira in some European markets.
