AUDI S6 · photos, packages and modifications
The new Audi S6 was introduced in 1994 for the European market especially designed to compete for the sector of executive cars. The S6 was a redesigning of the S4 model in actual it is based on the B4 platform with very few line changes. The distinguishing feature of the car rather its advantage over competitors was its all wheel drive system. Available in two variations the estate /wagon and the saloon, the models came fitted with a turbo charged, 2.2 litre diesel unit capable of producing 230 PS which was later made available with a 290 PS providing V8 4.2 litre engine also. At the start of 1996 Audi introduced very limited editions of the S6 boasting a power shoot of 36 PS on its v8 4.2 litre engine unit, changed the brakes and redesigning of suspension. The S6 Plus's production was cancelled after a year and only 952 units were produced.
1996 witnessed the second generation S6 models based on a new platform C5 opposingly to the latter S6 models. The new Saloon S6 model was limited to the European market only and a choice of two engines was available with a 32 valve 4.2 litre or the later introduced 40 valve 4.2 litre engine unit. The new model was made available with a stiffened suspension, brake assist, ESP and ABS with ABD. The new models also sported a wider front grille design and all aluminum hood components. A more athletic variation of the RS6 was also launched available with a V8 4.2 litre unit with a lowered suspension and a provided horsepower of 450.
The S7 who is a mechanical sort of twins of the S6 was also released as 2013 models a year after the release of the C7 A6 model. Both the twins are equipped with DOHC 4.0 litre V8 twin turbo engine unit along with a S tronic 7 speed double clutch gearbox. For fuel economy a new stop start system was introduced along with a cylinder deactivation system. The engine provided a torque of 405 lb-ft and 420 hp. The 2012 S8 by Audi shared the same engine though it was upped to 520 hp and a torque of 479lb-ft paired with an automatic transmission of 8 speed.
